September 2024 – Ear Acupuncture – NADA protocol very popular

I have found myself using the NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) ear acupuncture protocol over the past few months on quite a regular basis.  The five point protocol consists of five specific points on the ear, each corresponding to different therapeutic effects.

This protocol is commonly used to support addiction recovery, stress management, and trauma relief.  They can be used as a stand-alone treatment or included with body acupuncture to enhance treatment.  Here’s a brief explanation of each point:

  1. Shen Men (Spirit Gate): This point calms the mind, alleviates anxiety, and reduces stress. It’s often used to promote a sense of inner peace and emotional balance.
  2. Sympathetic: This point targets the autonomic nervous system, helping to reduce pain, balance the fight-or-flight response, and promote relaxation. It helps in easing withdrawal symptoms and calming the body.
  3. Kidney: This point strengthens the kidneys, which in Traditional Chinese Medicine are linked to vitality and willpower. It supports detoxification, reduces fear, and boosts energy levels.
  4. Liver: The liver point is associated with detoxification and helps in reducing anger and aggression. It supports emotional regulation and detox processes in the body.
  5. Lung: This point is related to respiration and grief processing. It helps in relieving feelings of sadness, supports the immune system, and aids in detoxifying the body from substances like nicotine.

I have found these points bring a real sense of inner calm when needled and can really make a difference to the patient’s symptoms.
